Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups apple cider
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • For the cinnamon sugar coating:
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  • 1. In a small saucepan, simmer apple cider over medium heat until reduced to about 1/2 cup. Cool slightly.
  • 2. Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Grease donut pans with nonstick spray.
  • 3. In a medium bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  • 4. In a large bowl, whisk reduced cider, melted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla until smooth.
  • 5. Stir dry ingredients into wet until just combined.
  • 6. Spoon or pipe batter into prepared donut pans, filling each about 2/3 full.
  • 7. Bake 10โ€“12 minutes, until donuts spring back when touched.
  • 8. Cool donuts for 5 minutes, then brush lightly with melted butter.
  • 9. Mix sugar and cinnamon in a bowl, then roll warm donuts in the mixture until coated.

Notes

  • Best enjoyed fresh the same day but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • For extra apple flavor, reduce cider ahead of time and let it cool before mixing.
  • You can also make these as mini donuts or muffins by adjusting the bake time.
