- 280 g all-purpose flour
- 30 g unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 115 g unsalted butter, softened
- 200 g granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tbsp red food coloring
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 120 g powdered sugar, for rolling
Instructions
- 1. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- 2. In a separate bowl, cream the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- 3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the red food coloring and vanilla extract.
- 4. Gradually add the dry ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms.
- 5. Cover and chill the dough for at least 1 hour.
- 6. Preheat the oven to 180ยฐC (350ยฐF) and line baking trays with parchment paper.
- 7. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll into balls.
- 8. Roll each ball generously in powdered sugar.
- 9. Place on the prepared trays, spacing well apart.
- 10. Bake for 10โ12 minutes until the cookies have spread and cracked.
- 11. Allow to cool on the tray for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
- Chilling the dough is essential for the crinkle effect.
- Do not overbake cookies should be soft in the center.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
