Description

Soft, chewy homemade cinnamon sugar soft pretzels recipe is a sweet twist on the classic mall-style snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the dough:
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110ยฐF)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • For boiling:
  • 10 cups water
  • 2/3 cup baking soda
  • For topping:
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • 1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • 2. Stir in salt, flour, and melted butter. Mix until dough comes together, then knead on a floured surface for 5โ€“7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • 3. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.
  • 4. Preheat oven to 450ยฐF (230ยฐC). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • 5. Bring 10 cups water and baking soda to a boil in a large pot.
  • 6. Divide dough into 8 pieces. Roll each into a long rope and twist into pretzel shapes.
  • 7. Carefully drop pretzels into boiling water for 30 seconds each, then remove with a slotted spoon and place on prepared baking sheets.
  • 8. Bake for 12โ€“14 minutes, until golden brown.
  • 9. Brush warm pretzels with melted butter, then toss or sprinkle generously with cinnamon sugar mixture.
  • 10. Serve warm.

Notes

  • These pretzels are best eaten the same day but can be reheated in the oven for a few minutes.
  • For an extra indulgence, serve with cream cheese glaze or caramel dip.
  • You can make mini pretzel bites instead of full-size pretzels for party snacks.
