- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon rose water (optional)
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups dark chocolate chunks or chips
- Optional garnish: edible gold leaf or chopped pistachios
Instructions
- 1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- 2. In a large bowl, cream together butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until fluffy.
- 3. Add eggs, vanilla extract, and rose water (if using). Mix until well combined.
- 4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, cardamom, and salt.
- 5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture and stir until fully incorporated.
- 6. Fold in dark chocolate chunks.
- 7. Scoop dough into rounded tablespoons and place 2 inches apart on baking sheets.
- 8. Bake for 10–12 minutes or until edges are set and centers are slightly soft.
- 9. Cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- 10. Top with gold leaf or pistachios if desired once cookies are fully cooled.
