A simple and delicious tiramisu-inspired dessert using boxed cake mix and a few easy-to-find ingredients.

- 1 box yellow or white cake mix (plus ingredients listed on box)
- 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
- 1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
- 1 (8 oz) block cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder, for dusting
- Chocolate shavings or cocoa nibs, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- 1. Bake the cake according to package instructions in a 9×13-inch pan. Let it cool completely.
- 2. Once the cake is cool, use a fork to poke holes all over the top of the cake.
- 3. In a small bowl, mix the cooled coffee and coffee liqueur (if using). Slowly pour the mixture evenly over the cake, allowing it to soak in.
- 4. In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- 5. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream to stiff peaks. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture.
- 6. Spread the cream mixture evenly over the soaked cake.
- 7. Dust the top with cocoa powder and garnish with chocolate shavings or cocoa nibs if desired.
- 8. Chill the cake for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best flavor.
- 9. Slice and serve chilled.
Notes
- For a non-alcoholic version, omit the coffee liqueur and use more coffee or a splash of vanilla.
- This dessert can be made a day ahead and stored in the fridge.
- Try using chocolate cake mix for a deeper cocoa flavor.
