Description
A simple and delicious tiramisu-inspired dessert using boxed cake mix and a few easy-to-find ingredients.
Ingredients
1 box yellow or white cake mix (plus ingredients listed on box)
1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
1 (8 oz) block cream cheese, softened
1 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
1 tbsp cocoa powder, for dusting
Chocolate shavings or cocoa nibs, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
1. Bake the cake according to package instructions in a 9×13-inch pan. Let it cool completely.
2. Once the cake is cool, use a fork to poke holes all over the top of the cake.
3. In a small bowl, mix the cooled coffee and coffee liqueur (if using). Slowly pour the mixture evenly over the cake, allowing it to soak in.
4. In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
5. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream to stiff peaks. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture.
6. Spread the cream mixture evenly over the soaked cake.
7. Dust the top with cocoa powder and garnish with chocolate shavings or cocoa nibs if desired.
8. Chill the cake for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best flavor.
9. Slice and serve chilled.
Notes
For a non-alcoholic version, omit the coffee liqueur and use more coffee or a splash of vanilla.
This dessert can be made a day ahead and stored in the fridge.
Try using chocolate cake mix for a deeper cocoa flavor.
