- 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter
- 4 oz (115g) dark chocolate, chopped
- 3/4 cup (150g) brown sugar
- 1/4 cup (60ml) molasses
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup (95g) all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup (30g) cocoa powder
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp cloves
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Optional: white chocolate drizzle or powdered sugar for topping
Instructions
- 1. Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- 2. In a small saucepan, melt butter and chocolate over low heat, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- 3. Whisk in brown sugar, molasses, eggs, and vanilla until glossy and combined.
- 4. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
- 5. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and fold gently until just combined do not overmix.
- 6. Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
- 7. Bake for 25โ30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- 8. Cool completely before cutting into squares.
- 9. Optional: drizzle with melted white chocolate or dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
- For extra texture, stir in chocolate chips or chopped nuts before baking.
