Description

This quick and easy Apple Cider Vinegar & Honey Tonic is a simple, nourishing, and refreshing drink designed to kickstart your day. Itโ€™s naturally gluten-free, gut-friendly, and perfect for incorporating wellness into busy mornings, with optional adjustments for sweetness and flavor.

Ingredients

Scale

12 tablespoons Raw, Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar
810 ounces Warm Water (filtered)
12 teaspoons Honey or Maple Syrup (optional, for sweetness)
12 teaspoons Fresh Lemon Juice
ยฝ teaspoon Fresh Ginger (grated, optional)

Instructions

  1. Warm Your Water: Begin by warming 8-10 ounces of filtered water. You want it warm, not boiling, to help dissolve the honey and mellow the ACV, but not so hot that it might destroy beneficial enzymes in raw apple cider vinegar. Aim for a comfortable sipping temperature. You can do this on the stovetop or in the microwave
  2. Measure the Apple Cider Vinegar: Carefully measure 1 to 2 tablespoons of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar. If you are new to drinking ACV, start with 1 tablespoon and increase it as you get used to the taste. This is the star ingredient, and its gluten-free status makes it a safe and beneficial choice
  3. Combine Ingredients: Pour the warm water into your favorite mug or glass. Add the measured apple cider vinegar. Then, stir in 1 to 2 teaspoons of honey or maple syrup. If you are adding fresh lemon juice or grated ginger, now is the time to include those as well
  4. Stir Well: Stir all the ingredients thoroughly until the honey or maple syrup has completely dissolved. You want an even distribution of flavors
  5. Taste and Adjust: Take a small sip. Does it need more sweetness? A little more lemon for zest? Adjust any of the optional ingredients to suit your personal preference. Remember, the goal is a balanced and enjoyable drink
  6. Serve Immediately: Enjoy your Apple Cider Vinegar & Honey Tonic warm, fresh off the stir. Alternatively, if you prefer it chilled, you can let it cool down or add a few ice cubes. Some people even prepare a batch and store it in the fridge for a refreshing cold drink later

Notes

Always opt for raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar with 'the mother,' as it contains beneficial bacteria and enzymes. Brands like Bragg's are often recommended and clearly state their gluten-free status.

Never drink undiluted apple cider vinegar due to its high acidity, which can be harsh on tooth enamel and the esophagus. Always mix it with water.

Use warm, not boiling water, to preserve the beneficial enzymes in raw ACV. Aim for a comfortable sipping temperature.

If you're new to ACV, start with a smaller dose (1 tablespoon) and gradually increase as your body adjusts. Listen to how your body feels.

Rinse your mouth with plain water after drinking ACV to help protect your tooth enamel from the acidity.

Ensure any honey or other sweeteners are fully dissolved for an even taste.

Consider choosing organic apple cider vinegar for additional peace of mind regarding pesticides and chemicals.

Experiment with other naturally gluten-free flavors like a pinch of cinnamon, a dash of cayenne pepper, a sprig of fresh mint, cucumber slices, cranberry/cherry juice, sparkling water, turmeric, or black pepper. Always verify that any new additions are pure and free from gluten-containing ingredients.

For short-term storage, a prepared tonic can be kept in an airtight glass jar in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. The freshness of ingredients like lemon and ginger will diminish over time.

Reheating this tonic is generally not advised, as excessive heat can diminish beneficial enzymes. If warming a chilled batch, do so very gently over low heat, avoiding boiling.

Store raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar in a cool, dark place. Honey/maple syrup can be stored at room temperature. Fresh lemons and ginger should be refrigerated, with ginger also being suitable for freezing.
