  • Author: Lidia Bellacci

  • Yield: 18 cookies 1x

Description

Deliciously soft and chewy chocolate chip cookies made with low-sodium ingredients. Perfect for those watching their salt intake without compromising classic cookie flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (or omit for even lower sodium)
  • 1 cup low-sodium or no salt added chocolate chips

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • 2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • 3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, and beat until well combined.
  • 4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • 5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix just until combined.
  • 6. Fold in the low-sodium chocolate chips.
  • 7. Drop tablespoon-sized scoops of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing about 2 inches apart.
  • 8. Bake for 9–11 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden but the centers are still soft.
  • 9. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Use no salt added or reduced sodium chocolate chips to significantly cut down sodium content.
  • For extra softness, slightly underbake and let them finish setting while cooling.
  • Cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
