Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (or omit for even lower sodium)
- 1 cup low-sodium or no salt added chocolate chips
Instructions
- 1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- 2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- 3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, and beat until well combined.
- 4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- 5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix just until combined.
- 6. Fold in the low-sodium chocolate chips.
- 7. Drop tablespoon-sized scoops of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing about 2 inches apart.
- 8. Bake for 9–11 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden but the centers are still soft.
- 9. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Use no salt added or reduced sodium chocolate chips to significantly cut down sodium content.
- For extra softness, slightly underbake and let them finish setting while cooling.
- Cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
