Description

Inspired by Red Lobster’s iconic cheddar bay biscuits, this cheese biscuit loaf bakes all the savory, garlicky flavor into a soft, sliceable bread—perfect as a side or snack.


Ingredients

Scale

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tbsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp sugar

1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

3/4 cup buttermilk

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 large egg

For topping:

2 tbsp melted butter

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp chopped fresh parsley (optional)


Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.

2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, garlic powder, and sugar.

3. Stir in shredded cheddar cheese until evenly coated.

4. In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk, melted butter, and egg.

5. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined—do not overmix.

6. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared loaf pan.

7. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

8. Mix topping ingredients and brush over the loaf immediately after baking.

9. Cool slightly, then slice and serve warm.

Notes

Use sharp cheddar for bold flavor, or try a mix of cheeses.

Don’t overmix the batter to keep the loaf tender.

For a spicier twist, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or diced jalapeños.

Store leftovers wrapped at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for longer.
