Description

A hearty and wholesome Whole Wheat Bread thatโ€™s soft on the inside with a slightly nutty flavor โ€” perfect for sandwiches or toast.


Ingredients

  • 3 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110ยฐF / 45ยฐC)
  • 2 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  • 1. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water with honey. Let sit for 5โ€“10 minutes until foamy.
  • 2. Stir in olive oil, salt, and 2 cups of whole wheat flour. Mix until combined.
  • 3. Gradually add remaining whole wheat flour and all-purpose flour until dough comes together.
  • 4. Knead dough on a lightly floured surface for 8โ€“10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  • 5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • 6. Punch down dough and shape into a loaf. Place in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  • 7. Cover and let rise again for 30 minutes, until dough has risen above the pan edge.
  • 8. Preheat oven to 375ยฐF (190ยฐC). Bake for 30โ€“35 minutes, until loaf is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  • 9. Cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

  • For a softer loaf, replace the all-purpose flour with bread flour.
  • You can add seeds, oats, or nuts on top before baking for extra texture and nutrition.
