A Southern Banana Cobbler that transforms ripe bananas into a luscious, gooey filling topped with a golden, crisp crust. It feels special but requires minimal effort.
Ingredients
Scale
4 medium ripe bananas, sliced
1 cup granulated sugar
½ cup unsalted butter
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup whole milk
1½ teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon ground cinnamo
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C)
- Place butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish and put it in the oven until melted
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, ½ cup sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in milk and vanilla until smooth
- Carefully pour batter over melted butter; do not stir
- Toss sliced bananas with lemon juice, remaining ½ cup sugar, and cinnamo
- Place banana mixture evenly on top of batter; do not stir
- Bake for 40–45 minutes until top is golden brown and filling bubbles
- Cool for 10 minutes before serving
Notes
Use very ripe bananas with brown spots for best sweetness.
Never stir the batter after adding bananas; the crust forms on its own.
Let cobbler rest before serving to allow filling to set.
