Description

A quick and easy homemade sugar free sour candy made with sugar-free and unflavored gelatin, coated in a tangy citric acid and erythritol mixture. Kid-friendly, budget-friendly, and endlessly customizable.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Sugar-free gelatin (your favorite flavor) 1 box (0.3 oz)
  • Unflavored gelatin 1 packet (0.25 oz)
  • Cold water 1/4 cup
  • Boiling water 1/2 cup
  • Citric acid (for the sour coating) 2 tablespoons
  • Erythritol or monk fruit sweetener 2 tablespoons

Instructions

  • 1. Combine both gelatins in a bowl.
  • 2. Add cold water and let it bloom for 5 minutes.
  • 3. Pour in the boiling water and stir until dissolved.
  • 4. Pour the mixture into a small silicone mold or a lined dish.
  • 5. Chill for at least 2 hours until firm.
  • 6. Meanwhile, mix citric acid and sweetener for the coating.
  • 7. Cut the firm candy into small pieces.
  • 8. Toss each piece in the sour coating and enjoy.

Notes

Stir the gelatin well to avoid clumps. Use a silicone mold for easy removal. Coat the candy right before serving so it stays crunchy.

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, away from moisture. Freeze uncoated candy for up to a month. If sticky, toss in more sour coating before serving. Swap gelatin flavors (lemon or green apple for extra zing).

For vegan, use agar-agar instead of gelatin. Adjust citric acid for milder or bolder sourness. Add a pinch of stevia for more sweetness.

Roll in crushed freeze-dried fruit for extra texture. Serve with cheese boards, lunchboxes, fruit platters, or herbal tea.
